Summer Essentials for on and off the Beach

Originally I was going to use "You'll Die Without These Beach Day Essentials" as the headline because CoSchedule analyzed it and gave it a 71%. Regardless, there is truth to that title — without the right products in your beach bag, a lot could go wrong (like sun burn or heat stroke). So to make sure that doesn't happen to you, here is my "What's in My Beach Bag?" guide to help you plan for your next trip to the beach or outdoor pool.

First, swimwear. Pick yourself up a fun, stylish pair of swim trunks from Bather. Bather is a Canadian men's swim and beach apparel brand with some unique, streetwear-inspired swimwear choices that will elevate your style on (and off) the beach. The ones featured here are the Blue Leaf Swim Trunks that feature an elasticized waist, side pockets, and back pocket with a snap enclosure. #notsponsoredbecauseiworkthere

For shirts, I highly recommend linen tees because of how lightweight and airy they are. Plus, they're a nice change from your standard cotton tee. Pro tip: wear a t-shirt that has either a v-neck, wide, or scoop neckline. That way, if you end up wearing the shirt the majority of the time in the sun, you won't be left with a dark tan line that's too close to your neck. And don't forget sunglasses! The ones photographed are from Warby Parker!

Another item I recommend considering is a nice beach towel. Too many times have I seen people bring their old bath towels to the beach and honestly, it's not cute. You don't have to spend a lot on a beach towel, but buy/bring a towel that's in good condition and if it has a cool pattern, like this one from H&M, all the better.

Now let's go through skincare and beauty products. Sunscreen is obvious (I hope). We should be wearing sunscreen everyday but if you aren't, then a beach day out in the sun is the day to make sure you are using one. For the body, I use Arbonne's Liquid Sunshine Mineral Sunscreen with Broad Spectrum SPF 30. This is a mineral sunscreen that physically protects your body from UVA and UVB rays at the surface, as opposed to chemical sunscreens that seep into your skin. For the face, I highly recommend Laura Mercier's Oil-Free Tinted Moisturizer with SPF 30. This will instantly even out your complexion while protecting your face from the sun and won't clog your pores (and from my experience, most sunscreens do). I also have Farmacy's Honey Savior, an all-in-one skin repair salve that will soothe and heal dry or irritated skin — perfect for sunburns.

Your lips need sun protection too and I love Jack Black's Intense Therapy Lip Balm with SPF 25. This one here is Black Tea and Blackberry but I also love the Lemon version. And to combat sweat and oil, check out Formen's Invisible Blotting Powder which will instantly remove any excess facial shine. And #notsponsored and #iusedtoworkthere.
